Which tests your browser can run
Buttons and sticks are widely available. Vibration, trustworthy timestamps, and WebHID are not. Use this matrix before you decide a motor or a gyro is dead.

“Usually” means current versions do this for common Xbox and PlayStation pads and still fail on odd hardware. We do not pin a build number we have not rechecked this week.
Secure context
The Gamepad API is only available on HTTPS pages and on localhost. An insecure copy of this site will load the words and refuse the inputs. That is the browser, and the tester says so.
The button-press rule
Even a supported browser returns an empty list until you press a button on the focused tab. The detection guide is the checklist when that press does nothing.
Frequently asked questions
Which browser should I use for a full test?
Desktop Chrome or Edge. You get inputs, rumble on most pads, comparable timestamps, and the WebHID prompt.
