Generic PC Gamepad Tester and Specs

A generic PC gamepad is any controller the browser lists and we do not recognize by name. Fight sticks, older wheels used as a gamepad, off-brand USB pads, and remappers all land here. If the mapping is standard, the face labels are meaningful. If it is not, switch labels to numbers and use raw data.

Labels are locked to this page’s layout. Change “Button labels” if they do not match the pad in your hands.

Inputs stay in this browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Press any button on the controller. Browsers hide gamepads until you press a button on this tab.

This is how often the browser hands us a new sample. It is not the controller’s USB poll rate. How old the newest sample is when the page draws it. This is not display lag and not in-game lag.

Up on the plot is up on the stick. The numbers keep the browser’s sign: positive Y is usually down.

Vibration

Motion

Gyro, accelerometer, touch position, and battery are not part of the standard Gamepad reading. Chrome and Edge on desktop can request a DualSense or DualShock 4 over WebHID.

Works with

On Windows, XInput pads are the ones browsers see most reliably. Older DirectInput-only pads sometimes appear with a non-standard mapping or not at all. On Mac and Linux, HID gamepads usually appear if the OS sees them. This site does not install a driver. If the OS game-controller panel is empty, the browser will be empty too.

Browser support for this controller

  • Read the mapping line before you trust a letter on a key.
  • Open raw data and press one button at a time if the order looks scrambled.
  • Extra axes beyond the two sticks are listed under the stick panel.
  • Wheels and flight sticks can move axes without looking like a gamepad. The scopes still show those axes.

Known quirks

Drift, repair, and warranty notes

Unknown sticks still have a resting radius. Use the same bands. If the pad is Hall-effect, expect a very small number; if it is not, wear looks like every other potentiometer. The browser will not confirm the sensor. Circular traces that never reach radius 1 are a short-throw stick or a calibration that caps the gate.

Frequently asked questions

What does non-standard mapping mean?

The browser is exposing buttons in the hardware’s own order. Index 0 might not be the south face button. Use the raw numbers.

The OS sees the pad and the browser does not.

Press a button with this tab focused, try another browser, and make sure no exclusive app has grabbed the device. The detection guide walks the rest: controller not detected.
