How do you use a DualSense on PC?
Plug it in, or pair it, then press a button on the PS5 controller tester. You do not need a driver from a random website. You do need to know when Steam is pretending the pad is an Xbox controller.
Setup
- Prefer USB for the first test. The id should mention DualSense or 054C:0CE6 when the browser includes it.
- Pair Bluetooth only after USB works. Hold Create and the PS button until the light bar flashes, then add “DualSense Wireless Controller” in the system panel.
- Look at the mapping. Standard mapping plus PlayStation labels means you are on the raw pad. An Xbox id means Steam Input or another remapper.
- Turn the remapper off to measure drift. Otherwise the deadzone you measure may be Steam’s.
What PC will and will not do
Buttons, sticks, analog triggers, and dual rumble work in desktop Chromium. Adaptive triggers, the full haptic engine, the mic, and gyro-as-mouse are game or Steam features. Confirm motion access separately on the gyro test. Specs are on the DualSense page.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need DS4Windows for a DualSense?
Not for this tester, and not for many modern games. Those tools are for games that only speak Xbox. Turn them off while you measure the hardware.
