8BitDo Pro 2 Tester and Specs

8BitDo pads identify themselves differently in each mode switch position. The Pro 2 is the model this page documents. Later Ultimate models are not the same product: some of those use Hall-effect sticks, and the original Pro 2 does not. Vendor id 2DC8 is the family clue. Product id depends on mode.

This is how often the browser hands us a new sample. It is not the controller’s USB poll rate. How old the newest sample is when the page draws it. This is not display lag and not in-game lag.

Vibration

Motion

Gyro, accelerometer, touch position, and battery are not part of the standard Gamepad reading. Chrome and Edge on desktop can request a DualSense or DualShock 4 over WebHID.

Works with

  • X mode: Xbox-style on Windows. Best default for this tester on PC.
  • D mode: DirectInput. Button order may be non-standard. Use number labels.
  • S mode: Switch-style.
  • mac mode: the position 8BitDo documents for macOS.

Browser support for this controller

Start in X mode on Windows and mac mode on a Mac if the pad never appears. After it connects, read the mapping line. Standard mapping means our face labels are trustworthy. Anything else means the raw indexes win. The generic PC page covers that case.

Known quirks

  • Changing the mode switch requires a reconnect. The id string should change with it.
  • Back buttons (P1/P2) sometimes map to existing buttons and sometimes appear as extras.
  • A firmware update from 8BitDo can change ids. Trust the current string over an old screenshot.

Drift, repair, and warranty notes

Pro 2 potentiometers use the same 0.06 and 0.12 bands. If you are on a later Hall-effect Ultimate, a high radius is a defect or a calibration issue, not classic wear, and it is rarer. The tester still cannot see the sensor type. Measure, do not guess from the marketing on the box.

Frequently asked questions

Which mode should I use for this tester?

X mode on Windows. If the mapping line is non-standard, switch labels to numbers and keep the raw view open.

Are all 8BitDo sticks Hall effect?

No. The Pro 2 uses potentiometers. Some later Ultimate models use Hall sensors. Check the spec for the exact model you hold.
