Hall-effect sticks on PS5-style pads

A magnet sensor avoids the carbon track that wears. The browser still only sees the axes.

What to check first

The standard DualSense is not a Hall-effect pad. Some third-party PS5-layout pads and later 8BitDo models are. Marketing on the box is not a measurement. Rest the pad and run the drift test. A Hall stick that sits at 0.20 is still a fault. A potentiometer that sits at 0.02 is still healthy today.

  • Ask for the sensor type in the spec sheet, not in a forum title.
  • Retest after a module swap before you trust the new part.
  • Deadzone can stay small when the radius is truly low.

Confirm the reading on the live tester before you buy parts or change firmware. The number on that page is what your browser actually receives.

A practical next step

Repeat the same test after each change and write the resting radius down. A fix that does not move that number did not fix the sensor. If the offset stays above about 0.12 with your hands off the sticks, plan a module replacement rather than another software pass. Model notes live in the controller library.

Frequently asked questions

Does this page change my controller?

No. GamepadTesters only reads the Gamepad API in your browser. Calibration writes, firmware updates, and stick swaps happen in the maker’s tool or at a repair bench.
